This ratio keeps your mine cart travelling at eight blocks per second, the highest speed you can go in Minecraft. The ideal ratio of regular rails to powered rails is 37 to 1, meaning that for every 37 regular rails you place down, you place a powered rail. So, I can just place my cart right up here, give it a push and right click to get in and I'm off.
I like to build a little startup ramp of regular rails right before my booster. If I place a cart on top and give it a slight push, indeed, you can see there's plenty of power. You can see them light up because they are actually now on. I need to place this next to my powered rails, so I'll put a block down next to it and then a torch on top of that block and there you go.
Place it on the bottom and you get six powered rails for each recipe, not 16. Red stone is the element in Minecraft that gives things power. Place them like so, stick in the middle again but this time, red stone. The recipe for powered rails are a lot like normal rails but, instead of iron, you use gold. So, once you've got a good solid grasp of how intersections work in Minecraft, you can actually start building powered rails and make really large mine cart tracks. So, that's a good way to override this default turn to the south. Turn north and from the west, turn north and ultimately from the south, it will continue straight as well. So, no matter what direction my cart comes from, they're going to intersect at this incline that heads north and they're going to turn in that direction. You can override this southwest rule by building an intersection on an incline, like so. However, these simple stations will get you around your Minecraft world well enough! Both station designs are based on laying two pieces of powered rail into a small trench, and providing power using a stone button.Let's say you want to make an intersection where your carts head north for whatever reason. Building complex automated passenger stations with multiple destinations is a fun challenge, and there are many ingenious examples on YouTube and elsewhere. If you don't mind slowing down a bit, one powered rail every four blocks will do.
To keep up top speed whilst climbing a hill, you'll need one powered rail every two blocks ie. Although the Minecart With Chest looks like it should be good for building cargo trains to move stuff around, it should be noted that they only have the same momentum as an empty minecart, so you would need to place powered rails every 8 blocks. If you don't mind going slower and want to save on materials, powered rails can be placed further apart. On flat ground, the cart will be kept up to speed by placing a powered rail every 38 blocks along the route. An occupied minecart will be accelerated to maximum speed by three powered rails in a row. Redstone torches can also be placed underneath the block that the rail is resting on to provide a hidden power source. Provide power to the rails by placing a redstone torch or a lever next to the powered rail &emdash you will see the rail light up. Place powered rails at appropriate intervals (see below). Rail can be laid diagonally in a zig-zag pattern it looks wiggly on the ground but minecarts travel in a nice straight diagonal line. Just right click to lay tracks on the ground. You will also need gold and redstone for powered rails, unless you're OK with only going downhill. You will need lots of iron and wood to build your rails. Minecraft rail systems can be fabulously complicated and are fun to build, but here we'll just focus on simple systems to get you around your minecraft world with minimum fuss. Detector rails activate a redstone signal when a minecart passes over them.
